Writing for the Web

In this exercise you will use several automated tools to test the wording and markup of a web page.
  1. Select a web page which mentions "Lake Macquarie".
  2. Copy the address of the web page into the W3C Markup Validation Service and click the "Check" button, to check the web page complies to web standards.
  3. What version of HTML was being checked? Did the web page pass validation? If not, how many errors were there?
  4. Test the same web page using Net Mechanic. What was the load time for the page? Is this good? What problems were there with the page? What might have caused the spelling errors?
  5. Test the same web page with the WebXACT Accessibility Test or The Accessibility Test (TAW). For the level 1, 2, an 3 automated checkpoints, how many errors were there? The most common accessibility problem with web sites is failure to have a text equivalent for important images.
