Didn't intend to stop in Strasbourg, but there was a rail strike. This was the only place in Europe where I had a hotel room with a telephone I could plug a modem into. Some hotels had no phone, a phone with no plug or an odd plug.
Having a socket wasn't necessarily a good thing. I ran up a $AU200 telephone bill with one modem call.

I couldn't understand what the commentator was saying over the public address system, but it sounded just like a horse race.

They can't make them out of clear glass, but the French public toilets are hi-tech anyway.
