Internet Reality Check

5:30pm Friday, 15 May 1998

Bar & Board Room, National Press Club, Canberra

Topic: "Bits of Culture": Australian Culture on the Internet

Special Guest: Dr John Cook, Director New Media, Department of Communication and the Arts

Note change of Special Guest From: Jenny Millea, Editor, Australia's Cultural Network (ACN)

What is the effect of the 'net on Australian culture? Will we be swamped with overseas material? Does the Internet's low cost and distributed nature allow Australia to assert its multi-cultural identity? Join Dr John Cook from ACN (an initiative of the Australian Federal Department of Communications) and Australia's leading Internet thinkers to discuss the issue.

Dr John Cook, Rupert Hewison & Kerry WebbJohn Cook, Rupert Hewison, Assistant Director, New Media Section DoCA and Kerry Webb, Industry Liaison Manager, Digital Media Information Systems, CSIRO at drinks

IRCs are free (but you have to buy your own drinks and one for the special guest) and open to anyone interested: just turn up. Internet Reality Check (not to be confused with Internet Relay Chat) is designed so that members of the 'net community can meet and exchange the small amount of very important information which is not suitable for digital transmission. ;-)
