Internet Reality Check

5:30 pm Friday, 27th August 1999

Kurrajong Hotel Bar, Canberra

Tina O'Brien

Topic: Real Learning at the Virtual University

Special Guest: Tina O'Brien, University of South Australia

Tina O'Brien is journalism trained but most interested in the delivery of information on the web. She did Honours in the presentation of large amounts of text on screen - fonts, layout & etc. Currently undertaking Masters in International Studies focusing on issues involved in the online delivery of courses offshore. She is interested in all things (except the technical aspects) to do with tertiary educational materials online. This includes making clean sites that are fast loading, with great navigation. Her study interests revolve around the remote delivery of courses across the web, including practical, cultural, communication, social, political and equity issues. She is currently looking at David Noble's "Diploma Mills" papers, and some papers in which his arguments are challenged.

IRCs are free (but you have to buy your own drinks and one for the special guest) and open to anyone interested: just turn up. Internet Reality Check (not to be confused with Internet Relay Chat) is designed so that members of the 'net community can meet and exchange the small amount of very important information which is not suitable for digital transmission. ;-)
